When teamwork makes sense in the kitchen…
The sun showed up… and so did we.
There’s something about that first warm stretch of spring that invites you outside—windows open, music on, and the quiet promise of a slower evening ahead. We opened up the Traeger to officially welcome the season, and just like that, dinner became more than a meal.
It became a moment.
Now, if your husband hears the words “Traeger” and “steak” in the same sentence, you already know—he’s in. No hesitation. No questions asked.
And honestly… I don’t blame him.
Especially after the night before.
I had made lemon fettuccini—light, fresh, beautiful—and while he graciously ate every bite, there was a subtle, unspoken question lingering in the air:
“Where’s the beef?”
So this… this was my answer.
When Cooking Becomes Connection
I don’t know about you, but I love when my husband joins me in the kitchen.
There’s something about it that feels romantic. Effortless. Even a little bit sexy, if we’re being honest.
Music playing. Movement in sync. Conversations that don’t need to go anywhere important.
Just being together.
It’s not about perfection—it’s about presence.
The Simplicity of a Good Flank Steak
Flank steak is one of those cuts that rewards a little patience.
We let it rest in a simple marinade—olive oil, raspberry balsamic vinegar, salt, and pepper. Nothing complicated. About an hour in a ziplock, though longer is always welcome if you have the time.
It’s less about precision… and more about allowing the flavors to settle in and soften the meat.
And if you’re feeling relaxed about it?
A good Italian dressing works just as beautifully.
In our case, there was no measuring. No overthinking.
He made it “with love,” as he put it.
And honestly—that might be the best ingredient of all.
Bringing It Together
Once the grill was ready, we cooked the steak low and steady—about 350 degrees, roughly 10 minutes per side.
Simple guidance. No micromanaging.
Afterward, we dressed it in that familiar Caprese way—
fresh mozzarella, baby tomatoes, and a generous sprinkle of basil.
Then came the finishing touch:
a soft drizzle of raspberry balsamic.
Bright. Fresh. Just enough contrast to make everything come alive.
If you’re building out the plate, a side of asparagus fits naturally here—and a glass of merlot?
Even better.
The Moment That Matters Most
We carried everything outside.
Set the table on the patio.
Poured a glass of wine.
And just… sat.
There’s a bird feeder nearby, and without fail, right around the time we settle in, they gather. It’s almost as if they’ve been invited.
The air hovered just under 70 degrees.
The kind of temperature that doesn’t ask anything of you.
After weeks of nonstop work, this was his pause.
No deadlines. No rushing. Just the quiet rhythm of an evening well spent.
A Gentle Reminder
Give yourself permission to slow down.
Cook together. Laugh a little. Talk about things that don’t matter.
Let dinner be more than something you check off the list.
Food is meant to be savored.
But so are the moments around it.
If you recreate this evening in your own way, I would truly love to see it.

It’s about who you’re sharing it with.
