There are certain recipes that just call out for comfort, and Ree Drummond—better known as The Pioneer Woman—has mastered the art of cozy, family-friendly meals. I’ve followed her blogs and videos for years, and when I came across her crock pot pork chop recipe, I knew I had to try my own spin on it.
Now, let’s be clear: Ree has years of practice not only in the kitchen but also in the world of food blogging and video creation. I, on the other hand, am still learning my best video angles, figuring out lighting, and trying not to chat too much while stirring the pot (literally!). But you know what? Cooking is a journey—and I had so much fun creating my version of this dish while sharing the process on video for Lifestylio.

The Grocery Adventure
Yesterday, I headed to our local supermarket and picked up five thick, bone-in pork chops—the kind that make you stop and imagine just how tender and juicy they’ll be once slow-cooked. Along with that, I gathered the other ingredients… and ended up with eight cans of cream of mushroom soup in my pantry (oops!). Hey, sometimes stocking up just happens.
What You’ll Need
Kitchen Tools:
- A Crock Pot (I use my Ninja, and it’s been a lifesaver)
- A cast-iron skillet (perfect for searing the meat)
- Tongs
- A whisk
Grocery List:
- 4–6 thick-cut pork chops
- 2 cans of cream of mushroom soup
- 2 cans of cream of chicken soup
- 1 cup chicken stock
- 1 packet Hidden Valley Ranch Seasoning
- Onion salt, garlic salt, table salt & pepper (to taste)
- Optional: pre-sliced baby Bella mushrooms
The Most Important Step – The Sear
If you peek at my photos, you’ll see just how thick these chops were! Searing them in my cast-iron skillet took the most time, but it was worth it. That golden-brown crust locks in the flavor and gives the dish a rich depth you just can’t get without that step.
A Family-Friendly Recipe
One of my favorite things about this recipe is how easy it is to involve kids. Let them:
- Dump the cans of soup into the mixing bowl
- Whisk everything together (kids love this part!)
- Sprinkle in the ranch seasoning like a “secret ingredient”
When children take part, they feel proud of their effort—and they’re more likely to eat the final dish!
Assembly & Cook Time
- Layer the pork chops evenly in the crock pot. This helps distribute the heat.
- Sprinkle in a generous portion of mushrooms.
- Pour the creamy gravy mixture over the top.
- Cover and cook:
- Low & Slow: 6–7 hours
- High & Quick: 4 hours (my go-to)
Sides & Serving Suggestions
To keep it simple, I paired the pork chops with Idaho potato mix and green beans from my pantry. But if you want to elevate the meal, fresh green beans are a great choice. Kids can help snap the beans, and then you can steam them until they turn a deep, vibrant green.
Plate your chops with a scoop of creamy potatoes and green beans (or a side salad), and you’ve got a hearty, family-style dinner.
It was so tender, it fell off the bone.

Final Thoughts
Cooking doesn’t have to be complicated—it can be a family experience, a memory-maker, and yes, a little bit messy (especially when you end up with too many cans of soup in the pantry). Inspired by Ree Drummond’s warmth and practicality, this crock pot pork chop recipe is one I’ll be making again. And hopefully, it inspires you to gather your loved ones, slow down, and enjoy a homemade meal around the table.
Bon Appetit’
God Bless
